Yeah, I know.....

....I gave up the ghost again. I just can't find it to constantly throw something up here on a regular basis. Things in my life are either too trivial or too personal to put in a blog post.

Until I can get to doing this again please feel free to follow me on Twitter.

And it's over.....

It was a nice run and an incredible comeback to tie the series but in the end the best team won the Pennant.

Congrats to the Tampa Bay Rays !!!!

It's gonna be a really fun World Series (although I'm sure it won't break any national TV ratings records).

One question - what is the merchandise return policy at Jordan's Furniture?

One for the Marbles.....

That's all I can say right now.

Tonight, Sunday the 19th, 8:07pm EST.

Be there - unless TBS has another problem.

Never Give Up!! Never Surrender!!!

That quote from Galaxy Quest has never meant so much as it did tonight. With the Red Sox down 7 runs with only 9 outs left in their season they come all the way back and win the 9th inning thanks to an error and clutch hitting by J.D. Drew.

I am the first to admit that I was among those that was giving up. I watched the rest of the game out of respect for the gritty Rays team and started writing a blog entry giving props to Tampa.

But after '04 and '07 I should have known better. Still, it's a long way to go.

They have to go back to Tampa.
They have to bring out Josh Beckett who, despite his denials, is way less than healthy.
They have to listen to 10,000 cowbells.

But I will not give up.

I will remember that Curt was less than healthy in Game 6 of '04.
I will remember that Lester is waiting for Game 7.
And I will remember what Kevin Millar said before the first elimination game in '04:

Don't Let us Win.

U.G.L.I.E.R

Just when you think things cannot be or look worse.

It's 10:15 and the bottom of the 7th and it's 11-2 in Game 4.

The only thing that would make this worse is if it was the Yankees.

The fact that it's a team like Tampa Bay that I can feel good about in a '69 Mets kind of way makes it a little easier.

The fact that the Sox won last year and in '04 makes it easier.

The fact that Manny is one game away from not being able to rub it in anymore makes it easier.

Still sucks.
Going to bed.

U.G.L.Y.

It's OK we were all saying - Jon Lester is pull us through.

Um........

I didn't get to watch the entire fiasco but it was just as well. Hopefully The Sox can win the next 2 games and, gulp, send us back to Tampa.

And if this can happen let's just hope the Sox fans down there can behave themselves.

ALCS Game 2 - now with more runs!!!

Game 2 of the ALCS becomes another classic in another way where instead of a pitcher's duel we see a wild one that lasts almost 5 1/2 hours with 16 runs scored with the Rays pulling out the walkoff win in the 11th inning tying the series at 1-1.

Josh Beckett has proven that he is just not right and is pitching through some physical issues giving up 8 runs in 4.3 innings. Luckily the offense picked him up with a lot of firepower of their own including 2 home runs from Dustin "Caballito" Pedroia.

Scott Kazmir was not doing too bad but the Sox made him pitch 98 pitches in the same 4.3 innings. The Rays bullpen gave up the lead but then settled down with Dan Wheeler pitching 3.1 scoreless innings to keep it tied until the walkoff in ectra innings.

This game was brilliantly managed by both teams until Tito decided to bring in Mike Timiln, who must have pictures on someone becuase his arm has been toast this entire season and has no business being on this roster.

So now we go to Fenway Monday afternoon and since it starts at 4:30 hopefully it will be done by midnight.

Some observations during the first two games:
  • TBS likes to comment constantly about Rays' manager Joe Maddon's craftiness and all they can say about Tito Francona is that he chews alot of gum. It's not to say that Maddon is not a good manager (in fact he is far and away the best manager of the season), but it's not giving credit to a manager that won 2 world championships, both of which they dug themselves out of huge holes to do it.
  • Hopefully now that the Rays are (and hopefully remain) successful, maybe they can install some real bullpen areas. Seeing pitchers warming up in the foul lines is not only not worthy of Major League Baseball but potenially dangerous.
  • Win or lose I really hope that the newly found fans in Tampa stick with this team and be actual baseball fans and not a treat them as a "flavor of the month" team that plagued winning teams like the Marlins. So far I do like what I see from them appear to be really having fun watching this incredible season for them.
  • It's been really fun to watch a team playing the Sox it such an important series that you can really like.
